I got a taste of what the future will be like when I got to work today. There was no kcls27things update. It's my Monday night check in and nothing was there. That's what's in my future for next week and beyond!
But then I checked again! And Behold! there it was! So here I am trying to sneak in a bit of blogging before it's back to the ref. desk.
My first thought in reflection is that I've really enjoyed learning most of the things. And I have a few that have "changed the way I live" - honestly it's true!
I check my bloglines account regularly and it's my spring-board when I get online. That's how I knew you hadn't updated the 27 things when I got to work.
My google search engine is now where I go to begin work on storytimes.
My "library thing" account is where I keep a list of good potential storytime books for the future. The account I set up for my home books hasn't been touched - it still contains the 5 mandatory book entries. BUT my fantasticstorytime librarything is a joy to behold. When a new book comes through, I zap the ISBN with the scanner and SHAZAM! there it is. I give it a few keywords for storytime themes and it's there forever! (I guess)
My Del.icio.us list is much used too!
I don't know how much I'll listen to podcasts. (Though I hear it on the radio all the time that you can subscribe and hear various shows any time you want via a podcast) I do enjoy watching Youtube videos - but I knew about those already. Myspace.... I don't know if I'll do much with that. I think I'd use the bloglines one more often.
So I thank you for bribing me with an mp3 player to learn these fun things.
About some of your questions...
What could we do differently ... Several of my coworkers are either not doing the lessons or are behind because they have too much work to do. I did a bunch of mine on my own time, because I'm really interested. That's why I've kept up to date. I don't know how the work load could be reduced for others who really have to do it at work or don't want to do it at home (and technically we weren't supposed to do it at home)
And I think 1 lesson a week for some things would have been plenty. There were some weeks that felt like they were a lot more packed with things.
I'd like to be kept up to date with other cool technologies. I know that they are going to continue being developed and I really would like to know what they are. Do you think there could be a weekly or monthly technology update?
What would I tell myself... I'd say to go for it for sure. I really enjoyed it! And I'm going to have a brand new mp3 player soon! Yippee!
The following was added for #27 What next?
Twitter? What is it? Will I ever find out since the 27 things are over? I've read little bits about it. But now I'm on my own unless you guys add a number 28.
I hope to use my heyread blog to update parents on what's happening at storytime this week.
Thank you all so much. It's really been fun!
