I've got a great new book that has some NEW (to me anyway) fingerplays about dogs. Don't let the title of the book put you off: Storytimes for two-year-olds by Judy Nichols! So here's what storytime looks like (for now)
I see a Doggie
(tune of how much is that doggie in the window)
I see a doggie out the window, (hands frame face as though peering out a window)
In a box at the lady’s yard sale, (arms form large circle in front of body)
I see a doggie out the window, (hands frame face)
And he has a waggily tail. (arm sways side to side)
I wave to the doggie out the window, (wave excitedly)
And he wags his wiggily tail, (arm sways side to side)
I wave to the doggie out the window (wave)
And he licks some milk from a pail. (licking motion)
Mom hands me the doggie through the window, (arms outstretched)
She bought him at the lady’s yard sale, (arms folded across the chest)
Together we’re looking out the window, (hands frame face)
Just me and my dog and his tail. (arm sways side to side)
Puppy’s doghouse
This is puppy’s doghouse (hands form peak over head)
This is puppy’s bed. (hands out in front, palms up)
This is puppy’s pan of milk, (cup hands together like a bowl)
Where he can be fed (make licking motion)
This is puppy’s collar (encircle neck with fingers)
His name is on it, too (nod head)
Take a stick and throw it! (throwing motion)
He’ll bring it back to you. (rapidly pat leg with hand.)
5 little puppies
5 little puppies were playing in the sun,
This one saw a rabbit and he began to run.
This one saw a butterfly and he began to race.
This one saw a cat and he began to chase
This one tried to catch his tail.
He went round and round.
This one was so quiet, he never made a sound.
Rags
I know a dog and his name is Rags
He ate so much that his tummy sags
His ears flip-flop and his tail wig wags
And when he walks he goes zig zag
Chorus:
He goes flip-flop wig-wag zig-zag
He goes flip-flop wig-wag zig-zag
He goes flip-flop wig-wag zig-zag
I love Rags and he loves me.
